Good outside lighting makes the walk from the car safer, puts off unwanted visitors and lets you enjoy the garden after dark. Because it is exposed to weather, it has to be installed properly – the right cable, the right fittings and RCD protection.

Doing it properly

Outdoor cable is run in armoured cable or suitable conduit, fittings are IP-rated for the location, and every outdoor circuit is RCD protected. That is what stops a wet floodlight becoming a tripping board – or worse.

Common questions

Can you power my shed or home office at the bottom of the garden?
Yes – we run an armoured supply and fit a small consumer unit in the outbuilding so it has its own protection.
