A loft conversion is a new room and usually a new floor of the house, so the electrics need planning early. We work with your builder to get cables in before the boards go down, and make sure the fire-safety side is right.
Ideally we visit before work starts, agree a layout, then first-fix once the structure is in and before insulation and plasterboard. Second-fix follows decoration.
All new circuits are tested and certificated, and Building Control is notified through our NICEIC registration – your builder will need this to sign off the conversion.
Our builder has 'a mate who does electrics' – does it matter?
It does when it comes to sign-off. Notifiable work needs a registered electrician or a Building Control inspection you pay for separately.
