A rewire replaces the old cables, sockets, switches and consumer unit throughout a property. It is a big job, so the first thing we do is tell you honestly whether you actually need one – often a new consumer unit and some partial work is enough.
Signs your house may need rewiring
- Rubber, fabric or lead-covered cables
- An old fuse box with rewirable fuses and no RCD protection
- Sockets mounted on skirting boards, or very few sockets per room
- Frequent tripping, flickering lights or a burning smell
- An EICR that has come back Unsatisfactory with multiple C2 codes
How we do it
We plan the layout with you first – where you want sockets, lights, USB points, outdoor supplies, EV charging or future extensions – so the house works the way you live. We chase in and first-fix, then plaster and decorate can happen, then we second-fix and test. We work room by room where we can so you keep power in the rest of the house.
What is included
New consumer unit with RCD/RCBO protection, all new cabling, sockets, switches and light points to your spec, earthing and bonding brought up to standard, full testing, an Electrical Installation Certificate, and Building Control notification through our NICEIC registration.
How long and how much?
A 3-bed house is typically 5–10 working days depending on whether it is empty or lived in. Every rewire is quoted in writing after a visit, with everything itemised so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Common questions
Can you rewire while we live here?
Yes – most of our rewires are in occupied homes. It is dustier and slower than an empty house, but we plan it so you always have power, lighting and a working kitchen at the end of each day.
Do you make good the walls?
We chase and fill neatly; final plaster skim and decoration are usually done by your plasterer/decorator or we can recommend local trades we work with.
