Earthing and bonding are the unglamorous part of electrics that stop a fault becoming a shock. If an EICR has flagged them, or your house has old wiring, this is often the first thing worth fixing – and usually one of the cheaper ones.
Earthing gives fault current a safe path so the breaker trips. Bonding connects metal pipework (gas, water, oil) to the earth so that, if something goes wrong, you cannot get a shock between a tap and a radiator. Older houses often have undersized or missing bonding.
Most bonding upgrades are done in a few hours. We quote in writing after seeing the property, and a Minor Works Certificate is issued.
My plumber said my bonding is fine – why did the EICR flag it?
Plumbers check pipes, not conductor sizes. Bonding has to be a certain size for the supply and properly connected at both ends – that is what we test.
